4 DEC 2022/JAN 2023 EDITOR’S NOTE It’s December 2022. And hurtling towards the end of the year, I am given pause to stop and look back. Taking a moment of reflection. What a year this was. Finally, we all got back to in-person events, borders opened, PacPrint/ Visual Impact in June, the multiple awards nights that could finally go ahead; FESPA International, and the inaugural FESPA Australia conference; ASGA hosted Golf days , networking events and career expos for schools. We embraced seeing each other, in person, with gusto. Challenges remain, carried forward from two years of massive global impacts, supply chains are squeezed a bit further down from the source than before, and the larger ships and containers diverted away from Australia; there’s no doubt that the work of 2023 will be in bedding down our own resilience, local manufacturing will take a front seat, and of course, the market forces that drive the collective push for sustainability will continue. And the ongoing costs of recovery and rebounding, made more relevant when we see the flooding across Victoria, Queensland and the tragedy of the disaster in New South Wales as the floods and rain continues unabated. All begs the question - How “disaster ready” are you? In this issue, we discuss sustainability with Ben Eaton (page 26), we look at the sustainability of social enterprise employment (page 24), and Sue Hirst gives us a comprehensive checklist for drawing up a business financial fitness plan (page 46). All great reading through the December break, and pertinent to consider your own disaster preparedness and the sustainability of your business across all aspects. Wishing you, your teams, your families, and our community of creatives a blessed, peaceful, festive season and much prosperity in the New Year. Safe travels if you are taking a well deserved holiday.
