WWW.IMAGEMAGAZINE.COM.AU DEC 2022/JAN 2023 9 ASGA hosted the HP 2022 National Sign & Graphics Awards Presentation and golf and networking evenings, as well as exhibiting at PacPrint 2021. This was alongside delivering webinars focussed on business and technical content. ASGA also continued its industry promotion at career expos in 2022 and rolled out a series of taster courses to attract school leavers into the industry. PACPRINT 2021 ASGA presented on the topic of ‘Changes to the National Construction Code and How it Affects Signage’. WHS and Compliance Advisor Glenn Hain outlined the key points and was joined for a discussion by Directors Mick Harrold (President), Marc Martello and Julie Rochester. It was great to catch up with members and many other sign industry personnel as a PacPrint exhibitor. Members took advantage of complimentary hot beverages, charging stations and meeting space at our Welcome Lounge. John Watters and Tina Mavris (AusSIP), Chloe Quilty (Victoria University Polytechnic) and Glenn, Michael and Liz (ASGA) were on standby to answer any questions and provide advice on the compliance and education area. 2022 NATIONAL SIGN & GRAPHICS AWARD PRESENTATION It was a merry evening, with over 300 guests attending the Crown Aviary, Melbourne, on the 28th of June for the HP 2022 National Sign & Graphics Awards Presentation Dinner. Australian stand-up comedian, actor, TV and radio presenter and ex-graphic designer Dave Thornton did a fantastic job of keeping the evening on track. As well as some familiar sign companies taking out Gold awards this year, such as Kingman, Cunneen Signs and Grafico Group, several companies posted entries for the first time that also featured on the winners’ list - Zimmerman Industries, OMG!, Signhub, Neolite, Specialbuild, Signcraft, Signageworld and Signage Fleet. It was great to see the industry come together again to celebrate and appreciate the diverse range of skills and talent that the sign industry offers. GOLF DAYS AND NETWORKING EVENINGS Golf days were held in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia - not to disappoint non-golf enthusiasts wanting an opportunity to network - casual pub meets also formed part of ASGA’s social calendar for Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia. All events – including the inaugural Victorian Golf Day – were well attended and positively received. In recognition of the important role that networking events play in making and strengthening connections, ASGA aims to continue to deliver a solid program of networking events in 2023. CAREER EXPOS AND SIGNAGE TASTER COURSES ASGA’s industry education liaison manager, AusSIP, represented ASGA at nine career expos across five States between May and September. They were joined by a host of TAFE signage teachers, ASGA Directors and industry personnel to promote the sign industry to students, job seekers and career changers. At the time of writing, a series of signage taster courses were scheduled for later in 2022. The classes were to be held in collaboration with various training institutions and industry suppliers and were designed as a hands-on introduction to multiple aspects of sign-making. WEBINARS Following on from its successful webinar program in 2021, ASGA held several technical and business focussed webinars in 2022 covering: LED signage, education and training, recruiting overseas workers and managing bullying and psychological injuries in the workplace. Webinars will continue in 2023, with the format proving a highly efficient means of delivering content online to a broad audience. ASGA acknowledges the support of its members, sponsors and affiliated organisations in achieving its aims in 2022.
