Avery Dennison updates training for vehicle wrap installers Avery Dennison has reimagined its popular training workshops across Australia and New Zealand. Developed from the company’s extensive knowledge and feedback gathered from customers and installers across the region, the workshops have a new focus on optimising installation for fleet and branding applications, while demonstrating the unique differences with aftermarket colour change applications. The needs of vehicle wrap installers today have evolved, and at Avery Dennison, we ensure we are constantly developing new and optimised ways to install our products. That is according to the Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions team, which has created a new curriculum that is the foundation of its training workshops for vehicle wrap installers in Australia and New Zealand. “With all the new trends and developments in the global graphics solutions industry today, our technical team decided to update the workshops,” said Peter Wright, Technical Marketing Manager, Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions, Australia and New Zealand. “We want our customers and installers to experience the latest technologies and apply the latest techniques for today’s vehicles.” Among the training workshops that Avery Dennison runs with its distributors are the essential and advanced vehicle wrap, automotive window tinting, and paint protection film. The training caters to installers of all levels - from beginners to experienced professionals such as sign makers who want to add vehicle wrapping services to their portfolio. All participants of these full-day training workshops receive their personal certificates from Avery Dennison and a package of useful tools and materials. For example, trainees at the workshops on automotive window tinting will receive Avery Dennison bags containing the necessary tools for wrap installations. EVOLUTION OF TRAINING WORKSHOPS Well-known in the graphics solutions industry, the Avery Dennison training workshops have been popular since their early days as far back as 2008. In the early days, the workshops 16 OCT/NOV 2022 were essentially introductory training to help installers get used to the different materials. “At that time, installers were relatively new to wrapping, but they could see the potential of vehicle wraps as a way to grow their business or to optimise their range of services to customers,” said Peter. Over time, Avery Dennison started to create workshops to help installers understand the differences in the various types of wrapping, such as fleet branding or colour change. The team also brought overseas specialists to bring new knowledge, techniques, and technologies to ANZ. Between 2014 and 2019, Avery Dennison flew in notable industry experts from Europe for different types of workshops. REIMAGINED TRAINING FOR TODAY’S INSTALLERS Around 2019, the Avery Dennison technical experts came together to thoroughly review their past training syllabus in consultation with many experienced wrap installers. Following that review phase, the team realised that the graphics industry wanted to be empowered to hone their skills and grow their businesses. The Avery Dennison team needed to help installers to learn about the latest trends and developments in graphics applications, exchange ideas and experiences with other professionals, and even progress to become Avery Dennison certified. With these in mind, the technical team spent days working together to document the syllabus and trial the sessions. “Among various objectives, we want to make sure that we covered off all the critical techniques to wrap a car within set time frames. Overall, these workshops have to be intensive with an optimised mix of theory and practical guidance for installers,” said Peter. The team also rewrote the workshop process from registration to certification to improve engagement with wrap installers, gain feedback, and directly award them their Avery Dennison certificate of attendance after the workshop. PRESTIGE, RECOGNITION AND CONFIDENCE Moving forward, installers can continue their learning and embark on the journey for their businesses to be an Avery Dennison Certified Installer Partner, a prestigious program recognised worldwide. Once certified, installers become part of the Avery Dennison global network of highly skilled specialists committed to providing best-in- class practices in graphics applications. The Avery Dennison certification gives installers the skills and confidence they need to stand out in the competitive graphics solutions industry.
